Founded in 1985 as a nonprofit professional regulatory organization, the mission of Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. (CFP Board) is to help people benefit from competent, professional and ethical financial planning.
CFP Board administers a national certification program and authorizes individuals who meet its standards to use the CFP® certification marks. These standards consist of the 4 Es: rigorous education, examination, experience and ethics requirements.
The following Principles express the profession’s recognition of its responsibilities to the public, to clients, to colleagues and to employers. They apply to all CFP Board designees and provide guidance to them in the performance of their professional services.
